Keeping on Top of Credit Card Debt
These days, almost everybody has at least one charge account. We use them for gas, groceries, online purchases, and just about any
other item that is for sale. They offer great convenience and they give us the opportunity to buy something now and pay it
off later.
Great care must be taken, however, when using revolving accounts such as these. It is no secret that this country is swamped with
this type of debt.
This is because people get approved for accounts with spending limits that are higher than they are able to pay back. This would be
no problem if people simply didn't max out their limits. But we do max out our limits, and much of the time we don't even
see it coming.
This means that we need to be that much more organized with our finances. Always know exactly how much you owe on every account.
Don't buy things you don't need, or things that you simply want but are going to have trouble paying off.
Some charge accounts come with low interest rates, but those rates still cost you money month after month. If you want to purchase
something in the near future, consider saving up cash to buy it instead of immediately. If you make only small payments each month
towards your balance, you could be saving hundreds or thousdands by saving up and buying whatever it is that you want.
In summary, the name of the game is discipline when it comes to charge accounts and the resulting debt. They are a handy way to
buy the things you need on a regular basis, or a convenient way to purchase something that you don't currently have all the cash for.
Either way, if you abuse this modern-day staple, you can end up in a sea of debt that you won't be able to swim out of.
